Nina Dobrev Leaving The Vampire Diaries

By in April 8, 2015 • Filed in: News, Nina Dobrev, The Cast, The Show

It’s true. Elena Gilbert is leaving Mystic Falls.

After some Vampire Diaries cast and crew members posted—and then removed—Instagram photos of Nina Dobrev with the hashtag #WeWillMissYouNina over the weekend, rumors started to spread that Dobrev might be leaving the show. Now, Dobrev herself has posted a photo confirming that the sixth season will be her last.

With the show already renewed for a seventh season, it’s unclear whether Elena might die—much like she did multiple times in the books—or simply say goodbye to the town she loves.

Dearest TVD Family, I've just spent the most beautiful weekend on Lake Lanier in Georgia with my own TVD Family, the cast and crew of The Vampire Diaries. I want to be the first to tell you that it wasn't just a holiday celebration, it was a goodbye party. I always knew I wanted Elena's story to be a six season adventure, and within those six years I got the journey of a lifetime. I was a human, a vampire, a doppelganger, a crazy immortal, a doppelganger pretending to be human, a human pretending to be a doppelganger. I got kidnapped, killed, resurrected, tortured, cursed, body-snatched, was dead and undead, and there's still so much more to come before the season finale in May. Elena fell in love not once, but twice, with two epic soulmates, and I myself made some of the best friends I'll ever know and built an extended family I will love forever. There's more to come before we wrap this up, and I promise you'll get to hear all about my experiences over the next month as we approach the season finale (I have given an exclusive interview for the June issue of SELF Magazine that I am excited for you to see!), but until then I invite you to hop on the roller coaster ride that is Elena Gilbert's life and join me as I celebrate her and prepare to say goodbye to her — and to my work family — as I move on to the next chapter of my life. I want to share this goodbye with all of you (this weekend's pictures were just the beginning). You, the wonderful fandom who gave more love, support and passion than anyone could have ever imagined seven years ago, when a young Degrassi girl from Canada showed up in LA to audition for 'that Twilight TV show.' ;-) I love you all. Fasten your seatbelts. If you think you know what's coming, you don't. Love, Nina

Vampire Diaries executive producer Julie Plec then issued a statement on Dobrev’s departure:

“Saying goodbye to Nina is both bittersweet and beautiful. After six-plus years together, the entire cast and crew of The Vampire Diaries has reached a level of closeness that I don’t think any of us ever expected. Nina is excited to spread her wings, get some rest, travel the world and also take it by storm, and we support her a thousand-fold. We will miss Nina and the four hundred characters she played, but we look forward to the insane and exciting challenge of continuing to tell stories of our Salvatore Brothers and our much-loved and gifted ensemble.”

Plec then also spoke to the departure of Michael Trevino, who was recently cast in a pilot. Trevino has also been a part of The Vampire Diaries since its pilot. “Michael has been a beloved member of the Vampire Diaries family since day one. Even though he’s also going to be out in the world exploring new opportunities, we look forward to finding creative ways to make sure he and his character Tyler Lockwood always remain a part of the show.”

In other words, fans will likely see more of Tyler moving forward, but the same can’t be said for Elena.

‘Arrow,’ ‘The Flash,’ ‘Vampire Diaries,’ ‘Supernatural’ & More Renewed By The CW

By in January 14, 2015 • Filed in: News, The Show

Young fans of the CW television network won’t have any suspense about their favorite programs. The CW said Sunday that all eight of the scripted series that were part of its fall lineup will return again next season.

The order includes the freshman series “Jane the Virgin,” a critical favorite that is still seeking a larger audience. Other returning shows include “Arrow,” ‘‘Reign,” ‘‘Supernatural,” ‘‘The 100,” ‘‘The Flash,” ‘‘The Originals” and “The Vampire Diaries.”

The CW has achieved modest success with a lineup heavy on zombies and vampires. CW President Mark Pedowitz said the network is slowly broadening its audience by attracting more men. Roughly 60 percent of the CW’s audience is women.

The early order of new seasons for its series gives producers more time to develop stories and plot twists moving forward, Pedowitz said.

‘The Vampire Diaries’ saying goodbye to Steven R. McQueen

By in January 14, 2015 • Filed in: News, Season 6, The Show

Jeremy Gilbert will officially say goodbye to Mystic Falls.

The Vampire Diaries executive producer Julie Plec reveals to EW that Steven R. McQueen will no longer be a series regular as of episode 14. Though Jeremy has left town before—and even died at one point—he really is leaving this time.

“It’s time for him to go out and live his life and we’re actually going to say goodbye to Steven R. McQueen as a series regular,” Plec says. “He’s growing up and moving on. He will be out living a real life.”

The catalyst for Jeremy’s story coming to a close springs from the show nearing its conclusion. “We’re in the third act of our storytelling of the show,” Plec says. “Everything that we’re doing is moving towards the end. Over the course of the next few years, we will need to start having the characters make choices about what they want with their lives and say goodbye to some people. It’s all part of moving toward the end, however long that takes.”

Still, there is a chance we could see him on the show again. “He could show up at weddings, funerals and series finales for sure, but this journey is taking him to another place.”

The Vampire Diaries Has a Brand New Character Making Their Way to Mystic Falls!

By in January 10, 2015 • Filed in: Casting News, Season 6, The Show

Fantastic news for those of you sick of the sight of Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley (just joking, how could you ever be sick of those two!?), The Vampire Diaries is adding a new recurring character to the cast!

Drew Stephenson will appear as Collin in two upcoming episodes of the show! We don’t know too much about Collin, but the actor tweeted back in November that he was “Preparing for my last scene with Caroline Forbes…” which definitely means we’ll be seeing him alongside our fave blonde vampire!

Collin’s appearance on the show could possibly have something to do with Caroline’s latest storyline, involving her mom, Sheriff Forbes, being diagnosed with cancer. Unfortunately, the cancer cannot be cured with vampire blood. In addition, the synopsis for the winter premiere for the second half Season 6 says that we can expect to see Caroline and Stefan traveling to North Carolina to look for a cure. Who knows, maybe there they’ll run in Collin?

There’s also a theory that Collin could have something to do with Sarah Salvatore, who is currently at Duke University, which just happens to be in North Carolina! Maybe Collin is Sarah’s friend or boyfriend?

We can speculate all we want, but all we know at this point is that Collin is on his way, and I can’t wait to meet him!

The Vampire Diaries returns January 22nd.
